You don’t want people who come to your website to feel like our guy above.
There are really only two reasons for you to have a website. Number one is to get your business found online when someone searches for the products or services you offer. Number 2 is to get more clients or customers. Both of these goals are of equal value, because if you’re missing one of them, the other won’t work.
If you are on the 5th page of google, no one is ever going to find your site! When you do a search for something you want, how far do you go? Do you even go past the first page? I know I don’t. So all those beautiful websites on page 3 and beyond are a waste when it comes to attracting new visitors and eventually clients to your business.
Is your website designed to get people to take action? Do you have more than one action they can take on any one page of your site? Too many websites have no goal for their site, or for that matter, any page on their site.
Remember, you want people to contact you. That should be your top priority. Make it easy for them to do that. Don’t make them have to work at it.
Does your website encourage people to sign up to receive emails (lead generation)? If not, you are losing out on a huge potential business from visitors who are not ready to by YET…but if you communicated with them via email, with valuable and helpful content, they would be more willing to do business with you and not your competitors.
Don’t have the boring “Sign Up For Our Email Newsletter” on your site. You’re asking something of them, give them something of high value back. Maybe it’s a report on “what to ask a cosmetic surgeon before you hire them” if you’re in that industry.
Does your homepage of your website have any text on it? Or, does it just have a big, beautiful image? If you don’t have text that’s “on topic” and informative to your visitor, google will not rank your site very well.
Google and the other search engines want content. Fresh content added often. This will give them a reason to come back often, and to rank your website at the top, where you’ll be found by people search for what you offer.
Do you have any videos on your site? If not, you are missing out on a huge opportunity to not only connect with your visitors more effectively, but get ranked high for videos. Did you know Youtube is the second biggest search engine in the world?
Google and other search engines are starting to rank videos on the first page, so if you don’t have any, you’re missing out on this high-ranking technique. Get some videos on your site ASAP!
Okay…you’re head’s probably spinning (or hurting) by now, so I’ll give you one more mistake to watch out for.
Do you have a blog on your website?
IF not, again…this is a huge mistake as it is a very effective way to provide valuable content that both google and your visitors value on a regular basis. This is a way to show you are the expert in your industry, and that you really care about your clients.
Google loves blogs, and blogs give you a reason to add content regularly. At least try to add one blog post (article) per week. That would be worse-case. Along with posts, this is a great area of your website to add your youtube videos.
